When should I take a homeopathic remedy?

The answer for this specific question depends on what remedy you are taking and what you are taking it for.

The rule is you only take a remedy when it is indicated. In the case of an acute illness like a fever or the flu you would take the correct remedy as soon as you discovered which one it was. And then you would not take the remedy again unless one of the following conditions was true.

1. Your symptoms first got better and then at some later time worsened again, or relapsed. If this is the case then yes it is time to retake the remedy when the relapse occurs. Note that these periods of time should lengthen considerably between incidents. Example: First relapse 5 minute- take the remedy again, Second relapse 1 hour, Third relapse 5 hours, fourth relapse 19 hours later. If the relapses do not lengthen in time after a few doses then it is probably not the right remedy.

2. Your symptoms are ongoing like a broken bone and you are absolutely sure that you have the right remedy (Symphytum - bone knit). If this is the case then a regular regime of once every 4 hours may be suitable. Very few remedies will fit into this category and in most cases the take x numer of pills every x number of hours is not suitable for a homeopathic cure.

When taking remedies they should not be taken right after or before eating or drinking. By waiting an hour after eating or an hour before eating to take your remedy it is more likely to be successful. Note this is not important in case of emergencies or trauma in which cases remedies should be given as soon as possible.
